Tommy Biesemeyer - we know him!

What a wild final week of the holiday training block! Mother Nature seemed to flex her muscles and put our resiliency to the test. Luckily, we have an amazing staff that consistently adjusted their plans due to the weather. We managed to survive a major meltdown thanks to the early snow that was made on Warm Up. We were able to manage the snow so that we had a high quality surface for all of our groups to use. The morning sessions were filled with our U14/16/19 teams and the afternoon sessions filled with our MWC and U10/12 Kandahar teams. All of our programs over the break had the very similar focus of balance and turn shape. They used a variety of environments when they were on Warm Up to stress both: corridor with transition blue line, apex, sideslip corridor, pivot slips, and more. Our older athletes moved into some single pole SL to prep for their up coming races as well as some GS. Warm Up was exhausted by the end of the break and is currently receiving a much needed burying by the snowmaking team so it can be ready for next weekend!

This past weekend marked the first weekend training on Why Not. We made a big push on Friday to get the upper half of the hill fenced (thanks to Barth and Elle for all the help!), and our U14 Kandahar/Excelsior team was able to get in some great GS training Saturday and Sunday! The snowmaking team is also adding some snow in key areas on Why Not so we can get the hill properly fenced top to bottom for this weekends races. We are hosting a U16/19 Empire Cup GS on Saturday followed by a U14 Excelsior Cup GS on Sunday.

Quite possibly the best part of the weekend for our athletes was getting the opportunity to spend time on and off snow with Tommy Biesemeyer, current US Ski Team member, Olympian and Windham supported athlete! Meeting anyone who is at the peak of their craft is inspiring, but when you are a ski racer and you have the opportunity to meet, talk, and ski with a current World Cup athlete, there is nothing better! He made such a great impression on our athletes and sent a great message expressing his love for the sport and for the athletes to never lose sight of that. On Sunday morning, Tommy skied with a group of WRF parents for "First Tracks with Tommy," skiing from 6:45AM to 8:00AM. It was open to the first 20 who responded and they were treated to not only skiing around with Tommy, but getting some tips from him as well! By all accounts, the experience was amazing for the parents and for Tommy!

As I mentioned above, we are heading into our first weekend of hosted races. We are still looking for some volunteers so if you are planning on being here for the races, please reach out to Topher tharlow@windhammountain.com to see if there is a role you can fill to help WRF host a great weekend of races!
