Midseason Review

Image
It's hard to believe that last weekend we passed the midpoint of the season. I guess time really does fly when you're having fun! When I think back to first half of the season, we have done some amazing things with less than ideal weather. The snowmaking and grooming teams have had our back and provided us with a quality surface for our training and racing venues. Our team of coaches has done an incredible job making the best of whatever Mother Nature dealt for any given day. They have helped our athletes progress each weekend with creative environments and utilizing the terrain on the mountain. The coaching staff continues to show their commitment to the program, the athletes, and the parents who trust WRF with the athletic development of their children. Here is a photo recap of the first half of the season: 12/15/18 12/16/18 12/22/18 12/23/18 12/24/18 12/26/18 12/27/18 12/28/18 12/29/18 12/30/18 12/31/18 1/5/19

MWC/U10K race #1 and the storm of the season!

The first Mini World Cup/U10 Kandahar race of the season is in the books! On Saturday, 170 MWC and U10 Kandahar athletes took their talents to Warm Up for their first race of the season. We had a perfect day and incredible conditions for the race. We officially turned Warm Up into a world class venue with b-net lining the hill, vibrant blue dye, and a party in the finish. We had a great showing from the volunteers and we can't thank you enough! Your support makes the day go so much smoother - thank you! Congratulations to all the athletes on a great race. It was great to see our athletes putting their heart and soul into their race run and doing so with a smile! Thank you to all of the coaches and race crew for putting on another great race and getting 170 WRF athletes safely to the finish in 1 hour and 45 minutes! Our blue dye artist - Barth Davenport  Sunday brought the biggest storm of the season to Windham, dropping nearly a foot of snow at the

What a weekend!

First...THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who helped us put on two great races! As you know, many hands make light work and we had both covered on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we hosted our first USSS race of the season with 121 U16/19 competing in an Empire Cup GS on Why Not. Getting the trail ready to host is quite the massive undertaking. Why Not requires roughly 100 B-Nets (yes, 100!) in order to properly protect the athletes while they are racing. Despite G lift being down on Friday, we were able to get everything set up with a lift on a snowcat from the snowmaking team. We also had some key help from our grooming team who brought up a basket and help us shuttle nets to the lower part of the trail. It was truly an all-mountain effort with multiple departments involved to get the hill ready for racing. We had one final net project to button up on Saturday morning but everything was set and ready for the athletes to begin inspection at 8:30AM and start the race at 9:30AM.

What a wild final week of the holiday training block! Mother Nature seemed to flex her muscles and put our resiliency to the test. Luckily, we have an amazing staff that consistently adjusted their plans due to the weather. We managed to survive a major meltdown thanks to the early snow that was made on Warm Up. We were able to manage the snow so that we had a high quality surface for all of our groups to use. The morning sessions were filled with our U14/16/19 teams and the afternoon sessions filled with our MWC and U10/12 Kandahar teams. All of our programs over the break had the very similar focus of balance and turn shape. They used a variety of environments when they were on Warm Up to stress both: corridor with transition blue line, apex, sideslip corridor, pivot slips, and more. Our older athletes moved into some single pole SL to prep for their up coming races as well as some GS. Warm Up was exhausted by the end of the break and is currently receiving a much needed burying by t
