Meteorological Spring has sprung!

According to the meteorological start of the seasons, Spring arrived on March 1st! For those wondering, the meteorological seasons are based on the annual temperature cycle of the calendar. The astronomical start of Spring occurs on March 20th (vernal equinox) but for the purpose of our program, we are certainly in the Spring season with only two weekends remaining!

Last weekend, we saw many of our athletes load the lift early to take advantage of available hill space prior to the Michael Gray Memorial Race hosted by ASF. Our U14/16/19 teams trained SL next to the Kinder Kombi set for the U10/12 teams prepping for their race on Sunday. The majority of our program took part in the Michael Gray Memorial Race, battling through a dual, paneled SL. It was great to see not just our athletes, but many of our coaches throw their hat in the ring and race in support of a great cause. Kudos to the ASF team for working hard to get everyone through each course and get cleaned up by 3:00PM - well done!

On Sunday, we hosted the final RVW Council Cup race of the season for the U10/12's. They competed in a Kombi which is a SL/GS combination on Warm Up, and our teams represented us very well! Congrats to all of the U10/12 athletes on a great race, council cup season, and good luck as they head to West Mountain this weekend for the Kandahar Festival. As always, thank you again to our coaches, race crew, and volunteers for making it a great day!

Our U14 team competed in the NY State Championships over the weekend. They raced in GS, SG, SL, and had a scored skills day. As part of the championship, NYSSRA also tabulated team scores for the events and WRF finished 2nd in both the GS and SL! Congrats to Kyle Ventura and Sophia Schupp for their podium performances over the weekend! Rumor has it the Windham coaching staff received a special shoutout for all their help over the weekend with setting, b-net, and pulling. It takes many hands to pull off a high quality event, and it is amazing to hear that our coaches were recognized for being a huge help at the event in addition to their coaching responsibilities.

Looking ahead to this weekend, we will have our U14/16/19 teams home training together as well as our MWC team continuing to build their fundamental base as we near the end of the season. Now is not the time to take a break, now is the time to keep working hard to solidify the foundation before heading into the offseason!

See you on the slopes!
