Windham is making snow!

It's true! Windham Mountain Resort started making snow during the late hours Saturday night on Why Not! Not a typo - making snow on Why Not! They made snow for over 24 hours before the temps warmed up a bit this morning and will be firing the snow guns up again late Tuesday night. They are making snow top to bottom on Why Not with the goal of opening the upper portion of the mountain without having to rely on making snow at the base. If they can't get the snow to the base, they will use D lift to download from the Wheelhouse to the base. Keep your fingers crossed for cold temps and no wind so they can make an abundance of snow and hopefully surprise everyone with an early opening date!

Top to bottom snow guns!

The upper pitch on Why Not is looking good! Time for B-Net!

Still some work to do below the Wheelhouse, but cold temps are coming.
The lift crew has kicked it into overdrive as the season is feeling very close. They have the terminals closed on the sides and are able to start putting in all of the lift electronics. While crews are working inside the terminals, another crew is continuing to put up the towers. The cable is at the base of the lift and just awaiting the towers to be finished before they run the cable and splice it together. Here are a couple interesting facts about the new lift:

~ The ride will be a mere 5 and a half minutes
~ Even in a power outage, the auxillary power system can continue to run the lift at 100% capacity
~ Every hour, the Westside Six carries the same capacity as the Whistler Triple and Whirlwind Express Quad COMBINED!
~ Due to said capacity, they will not be running the Whirlwind Express Quad this winter for a very simple reason...we would have too many people on the trails!

On Saturday, Snow Sports held its annual Rehire Refresher. This gave the Race Factory coaches an opportunity to get together and talk about out favorite thing - ski racing! A group of over 35 coaches got together for a meeting discussing the upcoming season. It also gave me the opportunity to meet some of the coaches I haven't had the opportunity to meet. I continue to be impressed with the passion and loyalty the staff here has for the Windham Race Factory and the athletes. We are deep in the planning process for this season and the coaches can't wait to get on snow with WRF athletes!

One of those plans has been an updated homologation (basically certifying the trail for racing) of Warm Up and the start is now on Wedel. We still have a few things to do before we are ready; move the finish building, run timing wire to the new start, hard wire the finish line, and clear some brush. After the meeting on Saturday, a group of coaches went up to clear some of the brush that Phil has been cutting. Just in case you were worried, they were under proper supervision:

Supervisors - taking a break from supervising
Keep your eye on the Windham Mountain website for an opening date! Keep thinking snow and cold temps so WMR can continue to blow snow. We will be skiing at Windham before long!

PS ~ Register for the program is you haven't done so already! Reminder that the fee goes up on December 1st!
